Wat Xieng Thong
Wat Xieng Thong, or the 'Golden City Temple,' is arguably the most historically significant and visually stunning temple in Luang Prabang. Built in 1560, its intricate mosaics, sweeping roofs, and detailed carvings showcase classic Lao architecture. The 'Tree of Life' mosaic on the rear gable is a highlight. It's truly one of the must-see places in Luang Prabang. I found the atmosphere surprisingly peaceful, despite the number of visitors.
Insider Tip
Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds. The light is also best for photography then.
